Portuguese stone – world heritage and impact of its recognition

Portugal has three stones classified as “HERITAGE STONE”.The designation “Heritage Stone” (initially Global Heritage Stone Resource and “Pedra Património”, in Portuguese), aims at the international recognition of natural stones that, as a geological resource, have achieved wide use in human culture. The Estremoz Marbles (2016), Brecha de Arrábida (2022) and Lioz (2019) were the first three Portuguese lithologies to be recognized as Heritage Stone. See Article

Minerais São Vida

“The Briefcase Game” aims to raise awareness of the minerals and metals present in everyday objects, and demonstrate their importance in everyday life, using a powerpoint presentation, mineral samples and an educational video. Students will have the opportunity to learn, through concrete examples, the origin, importance and application of mineral resources. Understand how minerals are transformed into products essential to today’s quality of life, from their prospecting, through exploration and until their transformation into the products we use and consume. The presentation will end with interesting facts about mineral resources and their importance for the future. After the first contact with minerals, it will be time to consolidate learning, through online group play. The class is divided into small groups, up to 4 members, who together will try to obtain the maximum score, while simultaneously stimulating autonomy, critical thinking and sharing. This activity is carried out several times, throughout the academic years, and is promoted by the ACPMR team. The activity is limited to one class at a time and may occur more than once a day. A room with computers and video projection equipment will be required. It is also possible to schedule visits to farms, factories, universities and research centers belonging to the Association’s members.
