Portugal has three stones classified as “HERITAGE STONE”.
The designation “Heritage Stone” (initially Global Heritage Stone Resource and “Pedra Património”, in Portuguese), aims at the international recognition of natural stones that, as a geological resource, have achieved wide use in human culture. The Estremoz Marbles (2016), Brecha de Arrábida (2022) and Lioz (2019) were the first three Portuguese lithologies to be recognized as Heritage Stone.
